I’ve strolled through Riverside Park on several previous occasions (click here to see a collection of approximately seven other Flickr albums of my Riverside Park photos) — but even though the sign at the 96th Street entrance is always the same, and the pathway is always the same, the people and the individual vignettes are always different.

Sometimes it’s simply a function of the weather: people dress differently, act differently, and are engaged in different activities in early spring than they do in summer or late fall. But much of it simply has to do with the incredible variety of people who take advantage of the opportunity to relax, read a book, jog, or picnic with their families.

So … this just happens to be what it looked like in Riverside Park on the last day of May, in 2009.

Struggling To Maintain A Fitness Lifestyle? Try These Suggestions!

You don’t have to spend hours in a gym to become physically fit. In the following paragraphs, you’ll read excellent advice that will help you become fit using different approaches, not just by going to the gym.

Many people work out at the gym by lifting weights to improve their fitness. If you want to improve your fitness, you only really need six simple exercises to work out all of your muscles. These exercises are pull ups, leg raises, bridges, handstand push ups, regular push ups, and squats.

You will want to be sure you aren’t spending any longer than an hour to lift weights. Muscles start to become very fatigued after an intense workout that lasts longer than an hour. Therefore, keep an eye on the clock when you’re working out with weights, and limit your time to 60 minutes or less.

Should you discover that your are working out less, or creating excuses to elude exercise, you must develop a schedule. Assign yourself a certain number of days in the week that you must exercise no matter what. If something does keep you from exercising, make sure to make up for it later.

Overdo Exercise

Some people overdo exercise because it doesn’t seem to burn the calories that people expect it to. When you overdo exercise, you risk muscle damage, joint damage, heart problems and dehydration. You will eventually become anaerobic, and in that state your body will not metabolize fat.

Are chin-ups difficult for you? Try thinking about them in a different way. Instead of thinking about pulling yourself up when doing a chin-up, imagine that you are pulling your elbows down. Mind tricks like these will make executing chin-ups easier and it will enable you to do a lot of them.

Fitness Goals

Try to work out on the weekends as much as you can to increase your chances for success. People will often use the weekends to relax and forget about anything that happens during the week. You need to keep your mind on your fitness goals 24/7. Think of how good you will feel on Monday, knowing that you stuck to your workout plan all weekend long. Build your self esteem by including weekends in your fitness goals.

Before you use the gym’s equipment, clean it off. Think of the germs the other person might have left on the equipment. You are hitting the gym to improve your health, not to end up sick in bed.

Test out a bench prior to working out on it. Simply apply pressure to the cushion with your thumb to see what it’s made of. If you feel the wooden or metal base beneath, look for another bench.

Box Squats

Box squats can help you bulk up your quadriceps. Box squats can improve your regular squats. You just need to put a box behind you. You perform the squat as you normally would, but you pause when you are seated on the box.

Becoming fitter and more healthy may be difficult, but it isn’t something to be dreaded. Try incorporating the tips that were given to you into your fitness routine. Fitness is something that must be part of a daily routine. The more you increase the intensity and frequency of your workouts, the quicker you will reach your fitness and weight loss goals.
